FREE COMPUTER INFORMATICS SEMINARS
We will teach the essential ideas of Computer Science for a zero-prior-experience audience.
Computers can appear very complicated, but in reality, computers work within just a few, simple patterns. We will simplify and brings those patterns to life, which is useful for anyone wanting to become familiar with today’s digital world.
Our seminars are hands-on and our labs include a variety of equipment that you'll be exposed to. We welcome you to bring your own laptop/equipment to take what you learned home with you!
KSI is a non-profit organization and these seminars is for free to the community, free instruction, free classroom, free parking, free equipment; our goal is to help local communities to understand the computerized world and learn valuable concepts, practical applications, and hands-on use of computer science.
These seminars can prove very useful for employees and the residences because we provide insight in so many topics and can focus on topics that the attendees would like to ask questions about.

Each week has two available attendance dates for the seminar; please be aware that the instructor will discuss the same topic on both attendance dates for said week. You are welcome to come back weekly and attend every session we offer! You are also welcomed to re-visit a seminar that you may have already attended in case you would like to ask questions, understand the topic better, etc. All sessions are free and all for your benefit! If you have the time, we have the ability to teach you interesting ideas.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The seminars will start with basic introduction on the below mentioned topics. The lecturer will go into more detail and cover advanced areas in future seminars. Our seminars are open to the public.
TOPICS AND DESCRIPTIONS
Database Structures and Query Language: Developing your own database can be very tricky. In fact, whether you want to keep records for a small business or run a large e-commerce website, developing the right database system can be a major challenge. Our seminar on SQL (Structured Query Language) will guide you starting with the basics to some advanced content using hands-on devices, namely Raspberry Pi.
Networking: Understand the basic pieces of your home network, protect yourself and your family on the Net with basics of computer security! The seminar will start with the absolute basics and work toward building a functional network.
Python Programming: Python is one of the fastest growing programming languages. Which is easy to see why: it requires three to fives times less time than developing in JAVA. Great for beginnings who have never coded before! Our seminar will guide you with step-by-step through syntax and logic of programming with Python and provide real world programming examples to give you a more hands-on experience trying what you’ve learned.
Web Design: You’ll learn how to design and build websites by learning the basic principles of CSS to beautify your HTML code and keep fundamental design profiles in mind like branding, color theory, and typography which are all instrumental in the design process of a website. These are useful skills to acquire as they are needed by nearly every single business in the world to communicate to customers. By the end of this track, you’ll have all the skills required to design and build your own website/blog and more.
